3 Misconceptions About AI I Keep Correcting

Every week someone asks me the same handful of questions about AI. Here's what I actually tell them.
"AI will replace programmers"
AI changes what programmers spend time on. It doesn't remove the need to understand systems, make architectural decisions, or know when a generated answer is wrong. The developers who struggle are the ones who never built the underlying judgment in the first place.
"You need a PhD to work with AI"
Most people using AI in real products are integrating APIs, not training models from scratch. You need solid fundamentals — how to structure data, how to evaluate output, how to build a reliable system around something that's occasionally wrong. That's a learnable skill, not an academic credential.
"AI just knows things"
A language model doesn't look things up in real time by default and doesn't have judgment the way a person does. It predicts likely text. Understanding that distinction is what separates people who use these tools well from people who get burned by them.
The goal of my content has always been the same: cut through the noise so people in Iraq's tech community can make informed decisions instead of reacting to hype in either direction.
